Before you borrow

Make sure your account is ready before choosing a book.

Eligibility

Membership comes first.

You need a signed-in Tunu Library account and an active membership to borrow a book. Annual membership costs 100 BOB and lasts for 12 months.

  • Register or sign in before opening a borrowing action.
  • Check your membership expiry on the dashboard.
  • If membership has expired, renew it before borrowing.
Membership and borrowing are separate charges. Paying the annual membership does not pay for a specific book.

The two charges

Keep the annual membership fee separate from the fee for each borrowed book.

Fees

Simple pricing, no surprises.

Tunu uses two distinct charges. The membership fee keeps your account active; the borrowing fee applies to the individual book you choose.

How borrowing works

Borrow the book first, then complete the payment from your member account.

Your journey

Three steps from discovery to reading.

1

Choose a book

Browse the catalog and open an available title while signed in.

2

Borrow now

Submit the borrow action. The borrowing is recorded without an upfront payment block.

3

Pay when ready

Open My Borrowings, enter your M-Pesa number, and pay 100 BOB.

Go to My Borrowings to see the record, fee status, borrowed date, and due date.

The 90-day window

Every borrowing has a clear start date and due date.

Timeline

Return by the date shown in your account.

The borrowing window is 90 days from the recorded borrowing date. Your due date appears in My Borrowings and on the dashboard.

  • Keep the book safe and accessible throughout the borrowing window.
  • Plan the return before the due date rather than waiting until the last day.
  • If you may be late, contact the library team as soon as possible.

Payment by M-Pesa

Complete the individual borrowing fee after the borrowing has been recorded.

Payment

Pay from My Borrowings.

Open the payment action on the relevant borrowing, enter the phone number that should receive the M-Pesa prompt, and approve the request on your phone.

  • Confirm the displayed amount is 100 BOB for the book.
  • Use a valid M-Pesa number and keep the phone nearby.
  • Do not submit repeatedly after approving a prompt; refresh the borrowing status first.
  • If the payment remains pending, keep the M-Pesa confirmation and contact support.

Reservations & pickup

Reservations help you plan for a copy that is not ready to borrow immediately.

Pickup

Reserve responsibly.

Reservations require an active membership and a signed-in account. Watch your dashboard for approval and pickup updates.

  • An approved reservation means the library has marked the title ready for pickup.
  • Use your dashboard or reservations page to follow the current status.
  • Pending and approved reservations can be cancelled when the action is available.

Returns & responsibility

Help the next reader by returning the book in good condition and on time.

Finish well

Return the book through the library’s agreed process.

Return the physical book before the due date shown in your account. Staff or an administrator records the borrowing as returned. If a book is overdue, contact the library team promptly to arrange the next step.

Keep the cover, pages, and markings in good condition. If damage or loss occurs, tell the library team rather than leaving the record unresolved.
